The temples of Halebid have always inspired me with their extraordinary craftsmanship and breathtaking stone sculptures. Among the countless carvings that adorn these historic monuments, the image of Lord Ganesha stands out for its serenity, grace, and spiritual significance. Halebid – Ganesh in Grey was inspired by one such magnificent sculpture, carved with remarkable precision by the master artisans of the Hoysala era.

What fascinated me most was the intricate detailing of the stonework. Every ornament, fold, and decorative element reflects an incredible level of artistic dedication and devotion. Despite being carved from stone centuries ago, the sculpture continues to radiate life, wisdom, and a calming spiritual presence.

Using watercolor in subtle grey tones allowed me to emphasize the texture, depth, and architectural beauty of the original sculpture. The restrained palette highlights the timeless character of the stone carving while drawing attention to the fine details that make Hoysala art so extraordinary. The monochromatic treatment also creates a sense of reverence, allowing the viewer to focus on the divine form and its artistic richness.
