Hampi – The Chariot 22 × 28 Inches

The magnificent Stone Chariot at Hampi has always fascinated me with its extraordinary blend of engineering brilliance and artistic mastery. Built in the 16th century, this iconic granite structure is renowned for its intricate carvings, majestic presence, and the remarkable illusion of movement created by its beautifully sculpted wheels.

What inspired me most was the ingenious craftsmanship behind the monument. The seemingly impossible design—where the wheels appear capable of rotation while the entire structure is assembled from carefully joined granite blocks without the use of mortar—reflects a level of architectural sophistication that continues to amaze historians, artists, and visitors alike.

Using pen and sepia tones, I sought to highlight the depth, texture, and intricate details of this historic marvel. The monochromatic palette allows the viewer to appreciate the monument’s fine craftsmanship, while evoking a sense of nostalgia and reverence for India’s glorious past.
